Introduction and aim: Bethesda system for thyroid cytopathology has been widely used recently. Approximately 3–7% of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy is considered as malign. Suspicious or malign nodules should likely to be resected. Aim of this study is to confirm the diagnosis of malign or suspicious for malignity according to Bethesda classification in patients with nodular goitre after thyroidectomy.Materials and methods: Results of F...

Introduction and aim: Interpretation of follicular neoplasia classification according to Bethesda system in thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsy is very different among pathologist. A number of definition including ‘follicular lesion’, ‘follicular proliferation’, ‘follicular lesion of undetermined significance’, and ‘follicular neoplasia’ were used in terminology. A clearly discrimination between nodular goitre, follicular adenoma, and ...

Introduction and aim: The most endocrinologists in routine practice are used to Bethesda classification for evaluation of thyroid nodule in fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA). It is accepted that FNA biopsy is an accurate diagnostic and gold standard test. However, false-positive diagnosis may sometimes occur as a patient with a ‘malign’ lesion is found incorrectly rather than an actually benign lesion on histological examination. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis probab...

Adequacy of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is generally defined by the thyroid follicle cells, amount, and quality of colloid. Samples priorly should be evaluated for adequacy. A set of qualifying criteria are specified in Bethesda system to remove subjectivity from the adequacy assessment. Each sample prepared from a thyroid FNA should be monitored at least six follicles cell groups containing at least ten cells. In addition to these criteria of assessing the adequacy, ...

Fine-needle aspiration biopsies (FNAB), adequate for examination, reported as benign re-evaluated with histopathological samples. 61 patients, 52 females and nine males re-evaluated. 41 of them reported as benign. 20 of the patients, seven females and three males reported as papillary carcinoma. Six of the papillary carcinomas were single focus, two muiticentric, and 12 papillary microcarcinoma. Six of the eight patients malignant lobe was different from the lobe that FNA was ...

Introduction and aim: Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy has become widely accepted as a reliable method for diagnosis of malign thyroid nodule. In our study we aimed to review results of thyroid FNA biopsy to be performed by same endocrinologist and compared to their histopathological results after thyroidectomy.Materials and methods: This retrospective study was done at the department of pathology for a period of 2 years from 2012 to 2014. The 401 pat...

Introduction: Aortic elastic properties and aortic stiffness are important determinants of increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in different diseases. We aimed to investigate the aortic function and to evaluate the relationship between aortic stiffness and systolic and diastolic functions of the left ventricle in patients with Cushing’s disease (CD).Material and method: Fourteen women and one man with newly diagnosed CD, and 17 control c...

Objective: To verify whether tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) could contribute to a better understanding of the natural history of cardiomyopathy in active Cushing’s disease (CD), through its enhanced sensitivity to diastolic dysfunction, and identifying preliminary regional signs of systolic dysfunction, before the appearance of clinical symptoms of cardiac pathologies. Methods: Eleven women with newly diagnosed CD, and 15 control cases, purposely match...
